Meggido, located on the border of Emek Yizreel and at the base of the Shomron Range, is famous as the scene of many historical battles, ranging from Biblical times till World War One.
Two Jewish kings were slain in battle at this site and it was here that the British defeated the Turkish-German forces in 1918, earning for their commander the title of Lord Allenby of Meggido.
The term Armaggedon, referring to the site of the eventual battle between good and evil in Christian literature, stems from the name Meggido.
