Many Jews throughout the centuries have chosen Jerusalem as their final destination – the place where they wish to be buried.
For centuries the only cemetery in the Holy City was on Har Hazeitim (Mount of Olives). In more recent times, especially after the Jordanian control of that mountain, Har Hamenuchot (the Mountain of Rest) became the main cemetery along with a smaller one, Sanhedria, in the center of the city.
